Left 4 Dead really is an incredible package. It's claustrophobic and sinister, yet utterly action packed and arcadey at the same time. It's completely gorgeous, yet the visuals serve the gameplay at all times, whether that's through subtle changes to the presentation to alter the mood, or the fact that you're playing so much of the game at the end of a flashlight. The zombies may be cannon fodder, but they're action movie cannon fodder - the horde are superbly animated, whether they're sprinting at you, climbing fences and leaping between rooftops, or stumbling as their bodies are riddled with bullets before slumping (even more) lifeless to the ground. Valve really does have a hit on its hands with Left 4 Dead. See you online.

It's by no means an exaggeration to suggest that this is up there with the greatest fighters ever made. It's not in the slightest button-mashy like Soul Calibur, it doesn't require the colossal 20 button commands from the likes of Dead or Alive and instead focuses on what's important – simplicity, strategy and fun. Exactly what you need before you begin to master its hidden intricacies.

Call of Duty 4 was last year's greatest game. Or at least that's the consensus that we IGN editors came to during our end of the voting. Now we have a new entry in the Call of Duty franchise known as World at War. It comes to us from the hands of those who churned out the maligned Call of Duty 3, but this time Treyarch has managed to make a highly exciting and fully realized wartime first-person shooter. But is it enough to topple last year's greatest production?

Need for Speed Undercover is a poor game with a ton of problems, both technically and in terms of design. The open world design is completely lost as you can't actually drive to any event, many races are closed off which means no cross traffic, and it's incredibly easy. The presentation could have been good but winds up feeling totally contrived and confusing at times. The game could, and should, have been leaps and bounds better than it is.
