Still there...

I have not forgotten the Dublin trip, I was still there. News to me today that I could well be going back down again this following weekend. So my aim is to finish that last trips post before I have more fun again.

Dublin, the begining.

A friend of mine asked me last week if I could do him a favour, or repay the ones he has done for me, and drive a 7tonne lorry to Dublin and back. He knew I have driven such things in the past, and I was available for the weekend. One small tiny problem. My drivers license. Now I do have the photographic part, but to become a recorded driver, I needed the paper section. So the hunt began. Hunting up and down, in and out, all over only to come up with nothing. Friday evening came, and around 4, I had to give up and contact my friend to inform him, I was going to be unable to drive, but I would be on hand to give him any tips.

11pm and I thought, I shall give a quick peek about the room, just on the off-chance I would find the license. Lo and behold, first bit of paper I pick up the license was stuck in between 2 sheets. Rubber Ducky was back in business!:>>

So, Saturday morning, turn up to ‘the unit’ for 8am to go and collect the weapon of choice for the next couple of days. We all (all that had turned up for that time) went down to the hire place and started to fill out the paper work. The attendant commented that we had nice, clean bits of paper. He was quickly informed that they are clean because this was the first time they had seen daylight since we recieved them.:))

After the papaer work was done, the attendant went off to collect or truck. The 3 of us joked between us that we were going to get a run down, rusted P.O.S. that would be just road legal. Then the cab poked itself round the corner. It was not a bad first impression, it was white and clean. We should of kept or distance. The closer we got the more beat up it looked. By the time, both my friend and myself had walked about with the attendant pointing out the damaged areas and paint scrapes, we thought that the attendant had a sudden attack of epilepsy and had scribbled over the paper. Some people need to learn how to colour in between the lines.

My friend and myself climbed into the cab and settled ourselves in, while our other friend climbed into his car and started to lead the way. One of the things the attendant had told us, was there was no fuel in the truck and that we were to return it back with the same amount in the tank if possible. So taking note of the needle on the gauge floating in the red, the brainstorming began to find a VERY local garage to fill’er up. Thankfully, there was a local one just 2 minutes in the industrial park we were in. Then it popped in my head as I began to pull along side the pump. What side was the filling tank on…. Sod’s Law coming into effect, it just happened to be the opposite side that I had pulled up on.

I shall continue this, when I am not so sleepy.

Work

Sometimes I wish I could find a place of work that I am not going to dread going into the next day. Don’t get me wrong, I like the job I am doing, and I like the people…I like MOST of the people in the work place. There are a couple that spring to mind that I would prefer I didn’t know, but its only to be expected.

Just at the moment, I am having the feeling that, I dunno, that work is not filling the spot that I need/want filled for a job. I am happy that I am in a job, but with the wages and the holiday, benifits? I dont think its worth the hassle that I am being put under day after day. I shall see how things fair on the busy run up to Xmas and keep my head down with my eyes open for other opportunites if they crop up.
